The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs department rescued four endangered hornbill birds at the Mumbai airport from two passengers, who tried to smuggle the avians into the country by hiding them in luggage, an official said on Tuesday.

The Mumbai customs seized 9.79 kg of gold and electronics worth Rs 6.75 crore and foreign currency valued at Rs 88 lakh in a four-day drive at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, an official said on Saturday.

Three persons were arrested in connection with the seizures in the last four days, the official said.

The Customs department has seized diamonds concealed in packets of noodles and gold hidden in the body parts of passengers and baggage, collectively valued at Rs 6.46 crore, at the Mumbai airport, an official said.
