Mumbai Local Trains Fully Vaccinated

The Maharashtra government's order of permitting only those fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to travel in local trains was "illegal" and brazenly affected the fundamental rights of citizens, said the Bombay High Court on Tuesday.

The prohibition on travel by local trains in Mumbai by those who are not fully vaccinated against coronavirus is legal and "reasonable", the Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court on Thursday.

Fully vaccinated passengers of the Central Railway's suburban trains can now book their single journey and season tickets on their mobile phones through the Railways' Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app.

The Maharashtra government on Tuesday issued an order allowing the common people, irrespective of the nature of their jobs, who are vaccinated fully against COVID-19 to board suburban trains in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

As Mumbai gears up for resuming suburban train services for the fully vaccinated public from August 15, the BMC on Wednesday started an offline verification process for fully vaccinated people and began issuing monthly passes at 53 railway stations.

Shares of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) rose as much as 4 per cent to hit record high of Rs 2,586.95 on the BSE.
