Resident Doctors and health workers at Hindu Rao Hospital ended their strike over non-payment of salaries on Wednesday night, after their salaries till September was paid by North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC)

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Monday demanded that the North Delhi Municipal Corporation immediately pays the doctors of Hindu Rao Hospital their pending wages while terming non-payment of salaries for the last three months an "unfortunate situation" and a "new low in governance".

Taking a dig at Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi's Health and Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain on Sunday said that MCD has funds for hoardings but not for paying Doctors' salaries who are protesting against non-payment of salaries during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has sought the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah into the issue of non-payment of salaries of resident doctors at various health facilities under North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), including Kasturba Hospital and Hindu Rao Hospital.

A section of municipal corporation doctors today called off their strike called to press for payment of salaries, urging authorities to refrain from taking "punitive action" and cutting salaries for participating in the strike.

Citing "precarious" financial situation, an MCD doctors' association, which is participating in the ongoing strike, has urged both the Delhi government and the Centre to consider taking over the health services from the civic bodies as a "permanent solution".

Around 300 doctors, nurses and paramedical staff working in the city's hospitals, run by the three municipal corporations, on Wednesday protested against the non- payment of salaries for past three months.
