The largest armed group of the Nagas that have signed a framework agreement with the centre has strongly denied allegations of supplying weapons and sending its cadre to Manipur to help a particular community.

Massive rallies were organised by the Naga tribals in four districts of the state today demanding a resolution of the decades-old Naga political issue based on the Framework Agreement signed in 2015.

The Centre on Thursday extended the ceasefire agreement signed with three Naga insurgent groups for another year.

The Centre on Tuesday informed parliament that peace talks with the armed Naga group, NSCN-IM, have reached an advanced stage. It, however, added that no time frame can be given at the moment regarding the final agreement. The group's contentious demands for a separate flag and constitution had derailed the talks last year.

A faction of Naga rebels, led by the most wanted leader Niki Sumi, has decided to revive its ceasefire with the Centre with immediate effect. In a statement, the group -- which revoked a 15-year-old ceasefire agreement in 2015 -- said they have contacted the Central government for initiating peace talks.

At a time when the Naga peace talks remain centered around the demand for a separate flag and constitution, the biggest armed political group involved in negotiations, the NSCN(IM), has claimed that any "separate talks" on these matters is "not in sync" with the 2015 Framework Agreement it signed with the Centre.
