Naga Groups Blockade

An economic blockade in Manipur led by the United Naga Council, which had crippled the state's supply lines for over 130 days, has been lifted - a day ahead of Chief Minister Biren Singh's crucial floor test to prove his majority in the Manipur assembly today.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju today alleged that the recent economic blockade in Manipur was the "handiwork" of the state's Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh. Mr Rijiju made the allegations at a 'get together' in the Delhi BJP office for the Manipuri community members living in the capital.

Election notification was on Monday issued for 38 assembly constituencies in Manipur which would go to polls on March 4 in the first phase.

The Manipur blockade by Naga groups, which will enter its 100th day tomorrow, is turning out to be the biggest issue in the assembly elections which will be held in less than a week's time.
