Narottam Mishra Disqualified

The Delhi High Court on Friday set aside the Election Commission or EC's decision disqualifying Madhya Pradesh minister Narottam Mishra on charges of paid news.

Madhya Pradesh Minister Narottam Mishra has been disqualified from voting in the Presidential poll, an Election Commission (EC) official said. The official said the electoral roll does have the name of Mr Mishra but it is followed by the word "disqualified."

The Supreme Court today agreed to give an urgent hearing to a plea of senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister Narottam Mishra who was recently disqualified by the Election Commission.

Madhya Pradesh minister Narottam Mishra today has been disqualified by the Election Commission of India over alleged corrupt practices and paid news during 2008 assembly polls in the state. Mr Mishra has been barred from contesting elections for three years. The assembly polls are likely to be held in December 2018.
