Astronomers have discovered the farthest and oldest star ever seen, named Earendel. It shone about 900 million years after the Big Bang, and is estimated to be at least 50 times the mass of the Sun. Icarus, another blue supergiant star discovered by Hubble, held the previous record.

A citizen scientist working for NASA has found the oldest and coldest known white dwarf - an Earth-sized remnant of a Sun-like star that has died - ringed by dust and debris.

"We were thrilled to be able to listen to some of the stellar relics of the early universe," said Andrea Miglio, from the University of Birmingham.
