Al-Qaeda has confirmed that its second-in-command, the chief of its powerful Yemeni branch, was killed in a US drone strike, in the heaviest blow to the Jihadist network since the death of Osama bin Laden.

Al Qaeda in Yemen was hit by a fresh strike today from a US drone which left seven militants dead, tribal sources said, a day after Washington pulled its diplomats from the country fearing an attack by the jihadists.
