An F-16 fighter collided in mid-air Tuesday with a small civilian training aircraft over South Carolina, US officials said, casting fiery debris over a wide area.

Senior US intelligence officials said Tuesday that Russia was responsible for "creating the conditions" that led to the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, but they offered no evidence of direct Russian government involvement.
