National Scripture Controversy

After Union Minister Sushma Swaraj favoured declaring Bhagavad Gita as "national scripture", veteran BJP leader L K Advani today urged people to read Mahabharata and Ramayana saying the epics are a great source of knowledge on politics and morality.

Pressing for the Centre to declare Bhagwad Gita as a 'Rashtriya Granth' (national book), External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said today only a formality remained to be done in this regard, triggering a controversy with Trinamool Congress saying Constitution is the "Holy Book" in a democracy.
