Navaratri Brahmotsavam

The nine-day annual "Navaratri brahmotsavam" concluded today at the famous Lord Venkateswara temple at nearby Tirumala with the celestial bath of processional idols of the presiding deity and his divine consorts in the holy tank.

Cash offerings, made in the temple 'hundi' by devotees at the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara near Tirupati, have totalled a record Rs 20.24 crore in the last eight days of the ongoing Navaratri Brahmotsavam festivities, a temple official said today.

The Navaratri Brahmotsavam festivals of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala near Tirupati began on Saturday with hoisting of sacred 'Garuda flag' by high priests, amid chanting hymns, atop the golden 'Dwajasthambham' (holy mast) inside the temple.
