Aligarh Muslim University Friday set up a three-member inquiry committee and suspended a student after a video showed some NCC cadets purportedly raising religious slogans following a Republic Day function here.

The Maharashtra Directorate of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) won the Prime Minister's Banner at the Republic Day camp, the Defence ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Two days after donning the traditional cap of Uttarakhand and a stole from Manipur during the Republic Day parade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore a Sikh cadet turban while attending a rally of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Delhi on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended greetings on the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Day and said that the Corps offers a great experience to the youth of India to realise their true potential and contribute to nation-building.

The Fit India Run 2.0 was held to commemorate 75th year of the Independence of India. Students including the cadets and volunteers of NCC and NSS and staff members of the university participated in the run, a JMI statement said.

The Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu has said that a stint in voluntary services like NSS, NCC should be made mandatory for children from schooldays.

Over nine and a half lakh cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), participated in the International Yoga Day on Sunday.
