Ndtv Blanket Drive

As Kashmir shivers amid the harshest winter spell, locally known as 'Chillai Kalan,' a blanket drive by NGO Uday foundation, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police, is underway for the needy in hospitals and orphanages in the valley. Officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police are distributing the blankets.

Students from 27 schools in Kerala regions have collected Rs 4 lakh, voluntarily donating a single rupee a day over a sustained period, and have dedicated it to homeless people in North India, to help them fight the cold by buying them blankets under NDTV and Uday Foundation's "Blanket Drive".

December 28 was Delhi's coldest night. The mercury fell to as low as 2.6 degrees Celsius. And in this bone chilling cold, there were many who slept on streets on pieces of cardboard and covered themselves with plastic sheets. These homeless people struggled to keep themselves alive.

Thank you for your overwhelming participation in our blanket donation initiative. New Delhi Television Limited (NDTV), in collaboration with the Uday Foundation in Delhi, had initiated a drive to provide blankets to Muzaffarnagar riot victims, people living in flood affected villages of Uttarakhand, and to the homeless in Delhi.

It was an appeal that had been sent through out through NDTV just two days back over the weekend. But due to an overwhelming response of the viewers, Uday Foundation managed to collect around a thousand blankets and 1500 warm clothes.
