In a relief for over 700 students, Madras High Court has stayed Medical Council of India or MCI's order cancelling admission in Puducherry's seven private medical colleges and deemed universities over alleged irregularity. The students, according to the council, were admitted last year in violation of rules.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has cancelled the admission of students to first year MBBS course in deemed universities and private medical colleges in Puducherry who were admitted during the year 2016-17.

Admissions of more than 700 students in seven private medical colleges and deemed universities of Puducherry has been scrapped by the Medical Council of India for irregularities. The students, the council said, had been admitted last year in violation of rules under management quota.

The Madras High Court today directed the medical colleges in Puducherry to accept Rs 3.5 lakh fixed by the fee fixation committee in March last year and admit students to the MBBS courses.

o end the frustration in the students, Puducherry governmenton Friday asked the students who are planning to apply for medical courses in the state to fill their applications for NEET 2017, which is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education.

Admission to various professional courses including medical in colleges in the union territory during 2017-18 academic year will be made by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC).

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said that he had requested the Centre government to exempt his state from National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET-UG based selection of students for medical colleges during the 2017-2018 academic year.
