The doctor who conducted sterilisation surgeries on 83 women at Bilaspur's Nemi Chand Jain hospital has been taken into police custody. Doctor RK Gupta was taken into custody from the Baloda Bazar area, nearly 70 km from Bilaspur, last night.

The Nemi Chand hospital in Bilaspur's Pendari, where operations to sterilise 83 women were conducted on Saturday, had not been functioning since April. It does not even have the most basic infrastructure - beds or stretchers or surgical equipment.
