The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has amended the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) in order to facilitate the use of electronic enforcement and maintenance of vehicular documents through information technology portal. The new rules will come into effect from October 1, 2020.

A motorcycle owner has been slapped with a fine amount of Rs 42,500 for allowing a minor to ride his motor bike violating traffic rules under new Motor Vehicles Act 2019 in Odisha's Bhadrak district, said an official on Saturday.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari today appealed to states against softening a new law that imposes steep fines for traffic violations, a day after his own party's government in Gujarat slashed penalties. "This isn't a revenue income scheme, are you not worried about deaths of 1,50,000 people," the Road Transport minister said, without naming any state.
