Media reports that data breaches in some companies have compromised email accounts of the government's National Informatics Centre are wrong, the centre said today in a statement.

It is important to clarify that there has been no cyber breach into the email system of the Government of India. The email system is totally secure.

Sandes has been launched by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) as an Indian alternative to WhatsApp and other instant messaging apps. The new app is an upgrade to the existing Government Instant Messaging System (GIMS) that was meant for official communication between government employees.

The new email security policy will bring all public sector employees to the NIC government domain.
