Nitaqat Work Policy

Saudi Arabia on Thursday clarified that its Nitaqat work policy was directed at illegal expatriates and no legal worker had been affected. The kingdom also said that the Indian community had benefitted from the grace period announced with 1.4 million Indian workers regularizing their status.

The Indian consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has appealed to members of the Indian community to volunteer for its campaign to help those Indian expatriate workers who have been affected by the new labour policy in that country.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said on Monday that India is in touch with the Saudi Arabian government over the kingdom's new work policy and would explore all avenues to find a solution during the three months of grace period announced by Riyadh.
