Nitish Kumar's controversial liquor ban is not illegal yet. Last week, the Patna High Court said the prohibition policy championed by Mr Kumar as Chief Minister is unconstitutional. Today, the Supreme Court set aside that decision while it reviews the matter.

The ban on liquor in Bihar, aggressively championed by Nitish Kumar, has been cancelled by the Patna High Court. The law had been described by critics as "draconian" for strict penalties against family members of anyone found making, drinking or selling alcohol.
