Nlc Contract Workers Strike

An early end to the six-day old indefinite strike by more than 10,000 contract labourers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation looked bleak with the first round of tripartite conciliatory talks held here on Monday ending in a deadlock.

The 44-day old strike by around 13000 contract workers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) pressing their demands including regularisation was called off on Sunday following an agreement reached between the trade unions and the management at a tripartite talks convened by the Centre, a top company official and a union leader said.

About 14,000 contract workers affiliated to All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) of the state owned Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) commenced an indefinite strike on Saturday demanding among other things service regularization.
