All NGOs, which receive foreign donations, have been directed by the home ministry to register themselves with a platform offered by the Niti Aayog to ensure better transparency, efficiency and accountability.

All NGOs, which did not disclose income and expenditure statements leading to cancellation of their FCRA registration, have been given a final opportunity by the government to file their annual returns by June 14.

Government agency CAPART has recommended registration of 159 FIRs against various NGOs for alleged misappropriation or misuse of funds disbursed to them, it told the Supreme Court today.

In another round of action against erring non-profits, the government has cancelled the licence of another 4,470 organisations. But the list surprisingly includes a number of top universities, Supreme Court Bar Association and the Escorts Heart Institute, which bars them from receiving foreign funds.
