No-Detention Policy: Delhi High Court Gives Last Opportunity To File Replies

The Delhi High Court has granted last opportunity to municipal bodies here to file replies on a PIL alleging that the no-detention policy in MCD and government schools till Class 8 has led to a situation where over 70 per cent students are unable to read Hindi or English.

The Union Cabinet today approved the scrapping of the no-detention policy in schools till Class 8. It also gave its nod to the Human Resource Development Ministry's plan of creating 20 world-class institutions in the country.

The Union Cabinet has approved the scrapping of the no-detention policy in schools till Class 8. An enabling provision will be made in the Right of Children for Free and Compulsory Education Amendment Bill which will allow states to detain students in class 5 and class 8 if they fail in the year-end exam.
