Odisha Dengue Cases

The Odisha government on Wednesday said it was well prepared, and there was no panic-like situation yet, following the first dengue related death of the year in the state.

Cases of dengue are being reported from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha and a number of other places. Delhi has taken the biggest hit so far, and is witnessing the worst outbreak in five years, with more than 2000 recorded cases and over 25 deaths.

The number of dengue cases in Odisha this year increased to 5,535 with authorities Saturday confirming 31 new cases, although the toll from the virus has remained at nine.

Tata Steel, a unit of India's Tata conglomerate, is building a six-million-tonne-capacity plant in Jajpur district that is due to be completed by 2015.

Stagnant water pools and unsanitary conditions in a plant being constructed by Tata Steel Ltd in Odisha led to a dengue fever outbreak which infected more than 280 workers, killing one of them, a government official said on Friday.

The number of people infected with dengue has soared to 1,005 in Odisha this year, with 36 more cases reported in the state in two days, an official said in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

Dengue cases in Odisha rose to 3,490 since June after 77 more people tested positive on Thursday for the mosquito borne virus, an official in Bhubaneswar said on Friday.

Thirty-eight fresh cases of dengue fever were on Sunday confirmed by Odisha authorities, taking the figure for the year so far to 268. Cuttack has been the worst-hit with 187 cases.

Nine more dengue cases were confirmed in Odisha on Wednesday, taking the number of those infected with the mosquito-borne disease in the state to 22 this year although no death has been reported so far, an official said.

Odisha on Monday confirmed 10 more dengue cases, taking the number of those infected with the mosquito-borne disease to 1,930 in the state this year.

Odisha on Thursday confirmed 51 more dengue cases, taking the total number of those infected to 1,861 in the state this year.

Odisha on Wednesday confirmed one more dengue case in the state, taking the total number of those infected to 1,520; the dengue toll this year is six.

At least 80 people in Odisha tested positive for dengue in the last couple of days, taking the total number of those affected by the disease in the state to 1,707 this year, an official said on Thursday.
