Odisha Fake Currency

Police on Tuesday seized counterfeit currency notes with a face value of Rs 7.90 crore and arrested three persons in Odisha's Koraput district during routine checking of vehicles, an officer said.

At a time when the Centre is trying to curb fake currency notes by demonetising Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes, a rumour has spread across Odisha that Rs 10 coins had been declared invalid by the Reserve Bank of India.

A youth was arrested by Odisha police when he was trying to deposit fake currency notes at a bank at Khurda town, near Bhubaneswar, amid the rush of customers depositing money following the demonetisation of high-value currency notes.

Incredible though it may seem, (late) Biju Patnaik had plans to print fake currency notes and circulate them across the Indian subcontinent as a means of bringing about the downfall of the British Raj.
