Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today met Prime minister Narendra Modi and made a strong pitch for a new dam at Mullaperiyar to replace the over 112-year-old "structually weak" reservoir.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter's residence here today and discussed the issues concerning fishermen, two days after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi criticised the Centre's decision to extend ban on trawling.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention for an early solution to the Mullaperiyar dam row. The Chief Minister, who met Dr Singh today, described as unfortunate Tamil Nadu's stand dismissing fears over the dam's safety.
