The first test run of Rs. 5,180 crore Kochi Metro rail project was flagged off on Saturday by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the presence of 'Metro Man' E Sreedharan at the Muttom railway yard in Kochi.

The Kerala government has cleared the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as the implementing agency and given administrative sanction for the proposed Light Metro project in Kozhikode and the state capital, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Wednesday.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Saturday that his government's work on infrastructure projects like a smart city and a Metro rail network were nearing completion.

Seeking to remove hurdles in the way of Kochi Metro rail project, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday held discussions with technocrat E Sreedharan and resolved to press Delhi Metro to take up the work of Rs 5,181 crore project.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Tuesday assured the people of the state that his government would carry out developmental projects only with the complete satisfaction of all concerned.

The Centre would decide on the chairman of the over Rs 5,000 crore Kochi Metro Rail Project, which recently got the Cabinet nod, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Saturday.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that work on the state's ambitious high speed rail corridor project, involving an investment of a whopping Rs 1.18 trillion, will begin from April next year.The first phase of the project, connecting the state capital with Kochi, will hopefully be over by March 2018, he said.
