Over 350 zoo inmates of a specialised zoo located in Darjeeling, known for its conservation and breeding programmes of highly endangered animals, are facing the heat of the ongoing shutdown with food supplies fast drying up.

Darjeeling zoo, left with eight female and a lone male snow leopard, has now got a male big cat from England while another from France will arrive later this year for breeding conservation programme.

West Bengal's Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (PNHZP), India's largest high altitude zoo, has become the first to be selected for the prestigious Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Earth Heroes Awards 2014.
