Pakistan Airspace Ban

With Pakistan considering shutting down its airspace for India, Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in Delhi on Thursday that India was subjected to "that experience" recently and will put in place systems to deal with any challenge.

Pakistan has closed three aviation routes of Karachi airspace from August 28 till August 31, the country's civil aviation authority said on Wednesday after the government's announcement that it is considering a complete ban on the use of the country's airspace by Indian flights.

Pakistan opened its airspace for all civilian traffic on Tuesday morning, removing the ban on Indian flights that were not allowed to use majority of its airspace since the Balakot air strikes in February. The move is expected to give relief to Air India, which had to re-route its international flights due to the closure of Pakistani airspace.

Pakistan on Thursday extended its airspace ban along its eastern border with India for the third time till June 28, according to a notice issued by the country's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Pakistan on Monday decided in principle to let Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aircraft fly over its airspace to Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan where he has to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on June 13-14, where his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan would also be present.
