Pakistan Bonn Conference

Pakistan, which decided to boycott the Bonn conference on Afghanistan's future after a NATO air strike killed its 24 soldiers, may now have "low-level participation" at the meet in the wake of US President Barack Obama's call to his counterpart Asif Ali Zardari, a media report said today.

Pakistan had on Tuesday announced not to participate in the conference in Bonn in Germany in protest against the killing of its 24 soldiers by NATO forces in a cross-border fire on the Af-Pak border over the weekend.

Following appeals from the US and Afghanistan, Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today said the country cannot attend the crucial Bonn meet on the future of Afghanistan if Islamabad did not receive assurances from the world community about its security and sovereignty.

The US has asked Pakistan to reconsider its decision to boycott an international conference on Afghanistan in Bonn next week, saying it is in Islamabad's interest and that its participation was "very important" for the future of the war-torn country.
