Palghar Mob Lynching Incident

The Supreme Court Monday agreed to list for hearing pleas seeking a CBI probe into the alleged lynching of three people in Palghar district in April 2020.

As many as 24 more accused persons have been arrested in connection with the Palghar mob lynching incident, said Irfan Shaikh, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer on Thursday.

The Shiv Sena today claimed double standards by the media in its response to fatal attacks on sadhus, alleging that such deaths were portrayed as "adharma (injustice)" when they happen in Maharashtra but are brushed of as "incidents" elsewhere

The Maharashtra CID's chargesheet in the Palghar lynching case in which two monks and their driver were beaten to death by a mob three months ago, says that the incident was a fallout of rumours that child-lifting gangs were operating in the area whose members posed as seers or uniformed personnel like policemen, an official said.

The Supreme Court has sought a report from the Maharashtra government on the ongoing investigation in the Palghar incident in which two sadhus and their driver were allegedly lynched by a mob on the night of April 16.

Condemning the lynching of two sadhus (sages) in neighbouring Palghar district, the Shiv Sena today said the incident was an attempt to malign Maharashtra's image and it was "inhuman" to give it a communal colour.
