A two-year-old boy who fell into a borewell in Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirappalli on Friday was declared dead by officials early Tuesday morning. Sujith Wilson's body had decomposed inside the borewell. A rescue operation that involved digging a parallel tunnel to get to the toddler was called off soon after the body was found.

The 52-hour mission to rescue a 6-year-old girl who fell into a borewell in Karnataka's Belagavi district is drawing to a close. Rescuers, who drilled a parallel hole and then a horizontal tunnel, are just a couple of feet away from Kaveri, who fell in on Saturday while playing with her friends. Officials say she is stuck at a depth of 20 feet.
