I've been holding off on writing this piece for more than 36 hours now. I didn't feel it would be appropriate to sit down and analyse the fallout of an attack that was still being responded to by our security forces. It's been a long 60 hours since news of the attack first came in.

At a small, remote village in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab, a group of women are gathered in a house to mourn a man who has become a national hero. They sit around Madhu, the daughter of Subedar Major Fateh Singh, who was martyred as he fought the terrorists who opened attack on the Pathankot Air Force base early on Saturday morning.
