Petrol Price Hike Goa

The Goa government has announced a hike in Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel with effect from Saturday, which will raise the price of petrol by Re 1 and diesel by 36 paise, an official said.

The Goa government on Wednesday slashed VAT on petrol by five per cent to bringi the fuel's price to below Rs 60 per litre despite the recent hike by the central government late on Tuesday to the tune of Rs 2.58 per litre.

After the Friday hike in fuel prices by the central government, petrol is now cheaper than diesel in this western Indian state.

Petrol and diesel prices were on Wednesday hiked in seven states including West Bengal and Maharasthra and that of domestic LPG in six states as state-owned oil firms recalibrated rates to reflect changes in local levies.
