Around 1,500 Tata Steel workers in Port Talbot and Llanwern in Wales will begin an "all-out indefinite strike action" from July 8 to protest the company's "disastrous plans" to cut 2,800 jobs and close its blast furnaces.

The five recruits will be working at the world's southernmost post office in Port Lockroy.

Four women have been selected in order to run the most distant office in the world and count penguins in Antarctica.

The successful candidates will have to be at the base from November 2022 to March 2023. They will also have to count penguins and other wildlife.

Out of the total 35,534 sanctioned positions in Port Trusts, 277,58 posts have been filled currently, the minister told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Tata Steel is exploring a joint venture with Germany's ThyssenKrupp and one of the options would have meant job losses at the plant employing around 4,000 as a result of shutting down of one of two blast furnaces on the site.
