More than half the rural students in the 14-18 age group falter at basic maths such as division, 40 per cent cannot tell time by hours and minutes and about a quarter of them struggle with reading basic text fluently in their own language, found a survey by Pratham, a non-profit working to improve the quality of education in India.

In the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), PRATHAM a non-governmental organization has revealed that computers are available in 20 percent of schools in 2016 as compared to 19.6 percent in 2014. PRATHAM conducts annual achievement surveys in rural areas of the country, findings of which have been published in ASER.
