Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said BJP stalwart LK Advani challenged dynasty politics and connected India's democracy to all-inclusive and nationalist ideologies.

BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani will be honoured with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning, calling it an "emotional moment" for him.

The members of the panel include former president Pratibha Patil, Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, NSA Ajit Doval, 28 chief ministers, artistes like Lata Mangeshkar, Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, senior BJP leader LK Advani, almost all Union ministers and several governors.

LK Advani: A number of wishes poured on Twitter to wish the BJP stalwart. One of the earliest wishes came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called him "scholar, statesman and one of India's most respected leaders".

Voicing confidence that BJP will form the next government at the Centre, veteran BJP leader L K Advani, who had reservations on the PM candidature of Narendra Modi, today said he will accept any role the party will offer him after the Lok Sabha elections.

For years now Pratibha Advani has been part of her father LK Advani's political campaigns, but given the significance of this year's elections, the daughter of the BJP's senior-most leader seems to have hit the streets in right earnest to ensure a smooth victory for the party from Gujarat's Gandhinagar, a seat held by her father since 1991.

BJP president Nitin Gadkari was seen walking next to LK Advani this morning as the top rung of the BJP entered Rashtrapati Bhavan. Their mission was to meet President Pratibha Patil to formally complain about how the government dodged a vote on the anti-corruption Lokpal Bill late last month.
