AIADMK workers today held special prayers for the speedy recovery of their party chief J Jayalalithaa, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai since September 22, by lighting about one lakh lamps at temples in different parts of the state.

To pray for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who has been in hospital for over a month, over 3,000 members of the ruling AIADMK joined a yagna or ritual in Chennai on Tuesday. Some 200 priests presided over the mass prayers.

Women draped in yellow, orange and maroon sarees walk in, bucket in hand. In the bucket is a lamp, coconuts, chandhan, kumkum and oil.
