Pre-monsoon Showers

The union government has offered Rs 200 crore to Kerala under the Urban Mitigation Programme for the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, which witnessed waterlogging during the recent pre-monsoon showers.

Some parts of Maharashtra, including Satara and Beed, received pre-monsoon showers over the past 24 hours, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said on Tuesday.

Over 40 people, including women and children, have been killed by lightning in Uttar Pradesh as many places in the state received showers on Sunday. A majority of the deaths - 14 - were reported in Prayagraj district.

Rains lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas this morning, bringing respite from the sweltering heat. The weather department said that pre-monsoon showers have arrived in the region.
