The Bombay High Court on Wednesday sought to know from the Maharashtra prison authorities how long they plan to keep Himayat Baig, convicted in the 2010 Pune blast case, in solitary confinement.

Archaeologists excavating the ancient Roman city of Pompeii have uncovered a "prison bakery" where slaves and blindfolded donkeys were kept locked up underground to grind grain for bread, officials said this week.

Mirza Himayat Baig, the lone convict in the 2010 German bakery bomb blast case, allegedly attacked an inmate on death row inside the high security Central Prison in Nagpur, following which the latter had to be hospitalised.

A 'prison bazaar' was today launched by the Tamil Nadu government where products made by jail inmates like clothes and bakery products would be sold.

As part of prisoner reform measures, Tamil Nadu Government has announced setting up a modern bakery unit inside Puzhal prison in the city. Part of the profit would be allocated for inmates producing the food. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced sanctioning Rs 45 lakh to set up the unit.
