Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice-Chancellor Professor Najma Akhtar has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was the second meeting of the Vice-Chancellor with the Prime Minister in the last two years.

Padma Awards 2022: Professor Akhtar was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor in April 2019, the same year which saw protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in December.

Terming it as a remarkable moment in the history of JMI, Professor Najma Akhtar said that over the last hundred years, Jamia has become a leader in providing accessible and affordable quality education emerging as one of the most progressive educational institutions in India.

Elated over the improved performance of Jamia Millia Islamia, Vice-Chancellor Professor Najma Akhtar said that just after a significant jump in NIRF ranking from 10th to 6th rank among universities, this is another feather in the cap for JMI that too during the challenging time of pandemic.

For administering the new endowment, a nine-member committee headed by the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Najma Akhtar has been constituted.

Prof. Akhtar said that the profound interest of NEP 2020 is in regulating, controlling and guiding the education system of India and it will equip the stakeholders with the “most modern education in sync with contemporary demands”.

The new National Education Policy (NEP) will create new opportunities for students in the domain of higher education, moreover, they can pursue education with greater flexibility in a seamless learning-environment, said Professor Najma Akhtar, Jamia Millia Islamia Vice-Chancellor.
