Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated ISRO scientists for the successful launch of navigation satellite IRNSS-1I and said it will benefit the common man of the country.

The 1,425 kg satellite was carried into space by Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket's 'XL' variant.

Less than a fortnight after ISRO launched home-made communications satellite GSAT-6A, the space agency is geared up to launch its independent and home-made navigation satellite IRNSS or Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System. The IRNSS-1I satellite will lift-off on board the PSLV-C41 rocket on Thursday morning.

IRNSS-1I is the eighth satellite to join the NavIC navigation satellite constellation in Earth's polar orbit.
