Milk supply in Maharashtra was badly hit after thousands of farmers launched a protest on Monday, demanding better price and subsidy of Rs 5 per litre. Tankers supplying milk to major cities including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik and others were blocked early morning leading to sudden crisis.

If it weren't for the timely arrival of an honest car driver at the scene of a robbery in progress, a cooperative milk collection centre office situated at a housing society off the Pune-Satara Road would have been poorer by Rs 17 lakh.

Abdul Sayyad (65) had just gone to the milk vendor to complain about a torn milk sachet. He had to pay for it with his life. Sayyad was beaten up by the vendor and two others after he complained about the torn packet and demanded another one.
