Several states, including New Delhi, Punjab, Goa and Kerala, may soon allow home delivery of liquor through food delivery platforms, according to a report.

Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Jharkhand, Odisha are among states where home delivery of liquor is allowed.

An order of the local administration in Punjab's Muktsar -- asking religious places to announce home delivery of liquor on their loudspeakers -- set off a huge row today as the opposition Akali Dal termed it "sacrilege". In the evening, the administration said it was an "inadvertent error" which was rectified.

The sale and home delivery of liquor will begin in Punjab from tomorrow, state's excise and taxation department said in an order today.
