The Centre is out to take strong action against former Parliamentarians overstaying at their official bungalows. But its action against Jat leader Ajit Singh went wrong today, with protesters and police engaging in a pitched battle in Muradnagar, 38 km from Delhi. Around 20 people were injured.

Ponty Chadha killed in shootout: Police detains 15 people, arrests likely soon

Police has detained at least 15 people, mostly the security personnel of controversial liquor and real estate baron Ponty Chadha and his younger brother Hardeep who were killed in a shootout between their groups at their farmhouse in south Delhi on Saturday.

There were no surprises as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's all-party meet failed to evolve a consensus on the Lokpal Bill on Friday. BJP leader Arun Jaitley, after the meeting, aptly put it as "the only consensus was on the lack of consensus."

Yeddyurappa on hold, won't return as Karnataka chief minister just yet

BS Yeddyurappa, who arrived in Delhi to be re-named chief minister of Karnataka, will return to Bangalore without getting back the job he lost in July. His party, the BJP, has signalled that for now, it cannot withdraw Sadananda Gowda, who was picked by Mr Yeddyurappa as his successor when he was forced to resign on account of corruption charges.
