Rail Roko Tomorrow

The railways has deployed 20 additional companies of the Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) across the country, with focus on Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, in the wake of the "rail roko" stir called on Thursday by farmer groups protesting against the Centre's new agri laws.

Famers in Punjab's Amritsar and Firozpur districts have started their three-day 'Rail Roko' protest today against the contentious three farm sector bills even. Farmers' unions in Punjab have called for a statewide "bandh" tomorrow and October 1.

The six-day-old 'Rail Roko' agitation by Punjab farmers will continue till tomorrow, the union leaders announced tonight after talks with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who offered some compensation and promised to take up their demands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Hundreds of farmers in Punjab have threatened to block rail traffic at many places across the state today and tomorrow, in protest against the state government's "anti-farmer" policies.

On Day 2 of the rail roko agitation called by pro-Telangana groups in Andhra Pradesh, the state government has toughened its stand and imposed prohibitory orders till October 26 in Hyderabad. Schools have also been warned if they don't reopen tomorrow, they will be derecognised.
