Rain Alert In Odisha

With formation of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and the IMD forecasting heavy rainfall across the state, Odisha government on Wednesday put certain districts on alert and asked to takeall precautionary measures to deal with the situation.

The Orange Alert has been issued for heavy rain in Jharkhand and Odisha today and in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand today and tomorrow.

The flood situation in Odisha's Mahanadi river system remained grim as it continues to swell, with around 1.5 lakh people in 237 villages being marooned, a senior official said on Wednesday.

Odisha is bracing for a possible flood-like situation in several districts, with the water level of the Mahanadi river swiftly rising following heavy rain in the catchment areas over the last few days, officials said.

Heavy rains, triggered by a deep depression, lashed Odisha on Monday, prompting the authorities to issue a flood alert, officials said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a red alert in seven districts, an orange alert in six districts and a yellow alert in eight districts for the next 24 hours due to heavy rains.
