BJP has managed to narrow the gap with the Congress in Rajya Sabha, where it is in a minority, after winning 11 of the 27 contested seats in seven states. 30 candidates were elected unopposed to the Upper House in the remaining eight states. The Congress, the largest party in the House, faced stiff competition from independents backed by the BJP.
