Rajdhani Express Fire

A 41-year-old man reportedly opened fire inside the New Delhi Rajdhani Express after an altercation with the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE), according to a statement by the Eastern Railway.

The incident occurred around 9 pm when the New Delhi to Bengaluru Rajdhani Express was passing Nawandgi railway station, railway official Ch Rakesh said.

The fire broke out between 12.50 PM to 1 PM and severely damaged the power car in the rear of the train, but did not spread to any other coach.

The railways will install an advanced, multi-level fire detection and response system in premier trains like Rajdhani Expresses and the upcoming Tejas Express.

A flash of fire and smoke were noticed on the roof of an AC 2-tier bogie of the Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express following which it was detained at New Cooch Behar railway station for over 90 minutes today.

As many as six empty coaches of two Rajdhani trains were gutted in a fire this afternoon at New Delhi railway station's maintenance yard, hitting train services and prompting authorities to order a high-level inquiry into the incident.

A comprehensive fire and smoke detection system is on trial in Rajdhani Express and will be extended to all major trains along with induction of indigenously developed anti-collision device, Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said on Wednesday.

Fire broke out in the generator car of the New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express in Kolkata shortly before its departure today, causing panic among passengers.
