A 43-year-old Indian migrant's release from police custody after he tried to abduct a small girl from a beach resort in Italy has sparked calls for his deportation.

Rajasthan State Election Commissioner Ram Lubhaya today asked the observers appointed to keep a strict vigilance on the political activities and management for conducting free and fair elections slated for polls on August 17.

Over 65 per cent turnout was today recorded in Rajasthan civic elections, as voting passed off peacefully barring minor clashes including in Bikaner where a BJP candidate was taken ill after he was allegedly forced to drink thinner by rivals at a polling booth.
