Ram Sethu As National Monument

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a plea seeking directions to declare the 'Ram Sethu' as a national monument and construction of a wall at the site, saying these are administrative matters for the government.

The Supreme Court today agreed to hear on July 26 the plea of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy seeking a direction to the Centre to declare the 'Ram Sethu' as a national heritage monument.

The central government on Thursday shied from taking any stand on the plea by Janata Party President Subramanium Swamy that the mythological Ram Sethu in the Palk Strait be declared a national monument. The Supreme Court recorded that the central government does not intend to file its response to the petition of Mr Swamy.
